For the International Year of the Forest, the UN sought to go beyond its typical routine of events and declarations to find a human truth able to emotionally connect citizens of every nation to their local forests, as well as inspire sustained meaningful action at a grassroots level.
With our partners at Vimeo, we created the UN’s first virtual film festival, using the reach of the organization to invite everyone, in every corner of the world, to create and submit a short film that answers a universal question: What does the forest inspire in you? Leading the charge were a select group of renowned filmmakers who regularly interacted with the global audience, and served as the festival jury, with all finalists flown to Istanbul to attend a premiere with UN dignitaries and media.
